Nintendo released the game “Pokemon Green” in Japan. It was the first installment of the Pokemon franchise and was designed for the Gameboy handheld system. The player begins their adventure by choosing one of three starter Pokemon: Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle. They then travel across the Kanto region, catching and training Pokemon along the way. “Pokemon Green” introduced many features that are now staples of the series, including battle facilities, Gyms, and badges. The game was a massive success in Japan and spawned a number of sequels over the years. However, it was never released outside of Japan. That all changed in February of 2016 when Nintendo announced that they would be releasing “Pokemon Green” (along with “Pokemon Red”) as part of the 20th anniversary celebration of the franchise.
